Video Production

At Wintergreen Magnet School you can turn your TV to channel 74 any day at 8:20 am to see the daily news broadcast. The WIMS 74 News broadcast team is made up of students from grades 5-8 who have an interest in TV production, video editing and reporting. Students write, produce, edit and deliver the broadcast each day for the entire school. Features include weather, sports, book critics, current events, birthdays and a daily reading in Spanish. At the end of the school year, students interested in a job on the broadcast crew must fill out an application. The application is done online and e-mailed back to the broadcast teachers. Students are then interviewed, and if selected, become part of the next year’s crew. Our students are trained in video camera operation and the mechanics for running a live TV show. They are also instructed in the art of video editing. Students take film footage during the day of events within the school. They then learn how to take this footage and edit it to an appropriate feature that the entire school can watch and learn from. This crew has been featured on Channel 8’s, “Making the Grade segment”. They have also had features posted on the Edison Web site for the entire country to view. Take a moment to view one of our student promos.
